thomas friant had this house built in 1892. he was a determined romantic when he chose the kind of house that would express him. a one of a kind house. using multiple architectural styles, mr. friant was a lumberman so he used multiple types of wood throughout. rumor has it he blew up part of a bridge on the grand river to break up a log jam. it is a colorful story.
in 1968 the current owners moved to grand rapids, and became intrigued with this now empty and neglected house.
